The Mysterious Affair of Styles by Agatha Christie

At Styles, a large country house, Mrs Inglethorp is suddenly taken ill and dies.  She may have been poisoned.  Prior to her being taken ill she was overheard arguing with someone in her room.  It is thought that the argument was with her husband.  Her evening coffee or hot chocolate could have contained strychnine.

The police ask the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who is living locally, to help with their enquiries.
