Mother and daughter, Fabio and Ella Moreno, arrive in York to set up a vintage dress shop. Fabio is very elegant and has secrets she does not want to reveal. Teenage Ella just wants to fit in at the new school she has to attend and to make some friends.
Fabio has a talent with clothing and accessories and can make people feel really good about themselves. She alters clothes to fit perfectly and also makes clothes in a vintage style. Within the hems and pockets she sews small words and messages. When Ella was small she had been told that these words held magic spells.
When local woman Jean Cuthworth holds a garden party lots of the guests go to Fabio's shop to get their dresses, they all want something special, but to look different. The most special dress of all is made for Jean Cuthworth.
