A small Irish community is devastated when, the day before a wedding, there is a car crash and of the six people in the car three are killed, one is very seriously injured and two are unhurt. What should have been a wedding ceremony turns into a funeral. Connor, one of the survivors, was the driver of the car and he can't remain living in the village where everyone is mourning their losses and accusing him.
First he moves to Liverpool to work on a building site. He later moves to London and then on to New York and makes a new life for himself. He has never made any contact with his family back in Ireland since he left.
Many years on Connor has contact with his sister and is encouraged to return home to visit the family. There were many secrets that have been kept hidden since the car crash and slowly lives begin to unravel as the truth is shared.
