The story starts 25 years ago when in a large house in Chelsea the dead bodies of 3 adults are found, they have been dead a few days. Also in the house is a small baby who is alive, well and has been cared for and fed. The other children of two of the dead adults are missing. The identity of the third adult is unknown.
Now in the present day the baby, Libby, has reached the age of 25 and has inherited the house which has been held in trust. None of the other siblings have come forward to make a claim.
Libby had been adopted and knew nothing of her past. She contacts Miller, an investigative journalist, who at the time was fascinated with the story. He helps her to piece together more of the details and to work out who she really is and what really happened in the house all that time ago.
